The Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Nigeria was established in 1992 as a tertiary educational institution for the provision of courses of instruction and training as well as conduct research in technology, applied sciences, management and other fields of applied learning relevant to the human resource needs of the nation. These capacity building efforts are rendered through a two-year course leading to the award of a National Diploma followed by another two-year course for the award of Higher National Diploma [equivalent of a bachelor’ s degree] in different disciplines. Academic activities started in April 1993 with 847 students. These students undergo National Diploma or Higher National Diploma programs in the following courses:
[a] Science Laboratory Technology [Basic Sciences made up of Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physics/Electronics] [b] Computer Science and Computer Engineering [c] Statistics and Mathematics [d] Electrical/Electronics Engineering [e] Civil Engineering [f] Architectural Technology [g] Building Technology [h] Quantity Surveying [i] Estate Management [j] Accountancy [k] Business Administration and Management [l] Marketing [m] Banking/Finance [n] Hospitality, Leisure and Tourism Management.
All the programs are approved and duly accredited by the National Board for Technical Education [NBTE], the supervisory agency established by law to set and maintain standards of polytechnic education in Nigeria. The recurrent and capital expenditures of the institution are largely financed through government grants, tuition fees and donations.
The Polytechnic located in ancient city of Ede, which is about 15 minutes by road from Osogbo the capital city of Osun State Nigeria. Ede has a Cocoa Processing Industry, a Sack Weaving Industry and the Headworks of the dam supplying water to major towns in Osun State. Ede is a predominantly rural and agricultural area, a sleepy countryside very close to the famous Osun Groove, with a wide range of cultural and artistic events taking place throughout the year.
It is one of the fastest growing Polytechnics in Nigeria, known for academic excellence and morals with Access to modern IT facilities and cyber café to boost link to information superhighway.
